deeply embedded in a mediocre movie, you might find a very pleasant surprise

Light, frothy Romantic Comedies starring Sandra Bullock (has she made a worthy film since Speed?) would never seem to be my cup of tea. They are usually last resort viewing on an airplane or a stoned out late night channel surfing binge through the offerings by the evil Comcast. The entire Kate Hudson, Matthew McConaughey, Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, Meg Ryan sub-genre is often just irksome to me. Many movies that I have really actually detested are in this group: You've Got Mail, When Harry Met Sally, 27 Dresses, The Wedding Planner, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous... they give me a stomach ache & a headache. Sometimes these films will have some redeeming male co-star nudity: Chris Meloni in Runaway Bride, Dermot Mulroney in The Wedding Date, Gerard Butler in P.S., I Love You, have made the getting through these films quite bearable. That is why, someday when I chance upon The Proposal (opening this weekend) with Sandra Bullock & Ryan Reynolds ( a very fine actor, really), this is why I will muddle through it. I am a sucker for a pic of a boy & his dog!
