I also agree with others who have written in before on these issues who have complained the driving all the way from Pullman to the sprawl area where Hawkins would wish to build is a waste of gas and not environmentally sound.

While we understand some people in Pullman who think it only fair turnabout to gain sales at the expense of Moscow, for a number of reasons that is highly unlikely to happen. Moreover, at a time when the Pullman and Moscow governments are seeking to cooperate on a number of projects, including responsible development of the Route 270 corridor, this is no time for store wars to ruin good will.

The Hawkins "sprawl area" to which Lupke refers is directly adjacent to the existing Wal-Mart that the PARDners direct folks to, as well as the Moscow businesses which they are so deeply concerned about.

If you are getting motion sickness trying to follow all of PARD's gyrations on the various issues, don't worry. You're not alone. Fortunately, Lu Laoshi's hypocritical rantings on the Hawkins development will remain just that: the inane, incoherent, illogical ramblings of an academic with a hugely overblown sense of self-importance. PARD has no big labor sugar daddy to bankroll an appeal of the Hawkins project.

Hypocrisy of the Day

“The city’s interest really still is the water resources. I know there’s folks that doubt that.”

- Moscow Public Works Director Les McDonald at last Monday's Whitman County Board of County Commissioners meeting in Colfax, as quoted in today's Whitman County Gazette.

How could McDonald say that with a straight face? In other news today, Moscow's Planning and Zoning Commission approved rezoning and preliminary plats for two large subdivisions at its Wednesday meeting, putting a total of 132 new lots on the path toward the market.

The Palouse Basin Aquifer Committee figures the average household with the average number of residents (2.35) uses approximately 111,500 gallons of water a year. The new Moscow housing approved today will use 14.65 million gallons of water a year.

Based on project descriptions, the PBAC estimates the Hawkins development will use approximately 39 million gallons of water a year when fully built out.

With just TWO subdivisions, Moscow has just approved the withdrawal of more than 1/3 of the proposed Hawkins water usage from the aquifer in one fell swoop. And how many more Moscow subdivisions are in the works? Does anyone else see the madness in all this?

Nick Fury, Agent of Intolerance

Boy, nothing says "tolerance" like "full fury."

And in the UI Argonaut today, Rula Awwad-Rafferty, UI faculty member and JUNTURA committee chair (JUNTURA "enhances student academic success and promotes the values of respect, understanding, and equality within a diverse university experience") stated, “I don’t think hatred ought to be tolerated anywhere. But you don’t fight hatred with hatred.”

Really? So if you can't hate Mohamed Atta and Osama bin Laden, is it okay then to hate George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld? How about Wal-Mart? How about conservatives and evangelical Christians? Because you sure see a lot of campus-sponsored and -approved hatred directed at all of them, especially from Gier, who has compared fundamentalist Christians to Jihadists, (from the below picture on his UI-based web site, we can tell which Gier thinks is worse.) This is Gier's "full fury of tolerance?"


By the way Nick, here's a hint for you. If you were to post a sacrilegeous picture of Mohammed like that in Iran, it wouldn't be Jesus knocking at the door packing heat, it would be the Revolutionary Guard.

If I were the CRs, I wouldn't worry. That gasbag Gier doesn't have enough fury to get out of a wet paper bag.
