Ron Paul Supporters' Interview on The PES

Monday 11/26 on The PES we will be interviewing some of the supporters of Ron Paul. There is a group on campus that will be representing their views on Ron Paul. If I have time there are a couple crime and punnishment articles that I would like to cover as well.

We are back to normal content and ON THE AIR! The transmitter is fixed and I plan on talking about stuff and not playing heavy metal music. Tune in Monday Noon to 2PM. I would like to take time to give a HUGE thank you to Batman -- the Protector of Pullman -- for his weekly call-ins. Also to all the other listeners and participants with the show. I would also like to thank Danny for coming on the show (finally) a couple times this semester. I had a ton of fun this year and I am looking for more fun again after I have a break this summer.

My Prayers Go Out to Blacksburg

I grew up about 25 miles away from the small university town of Blacksburg, Virginia. Today, Blacksburg was the scene of a horrific massacre that took place on the campus of Virginia Tech. At least 30 students were murdered in a senseless shooting rampage. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims' friends and families. This incident has hit close to home for me.

As I told Scotty on The PES a short while ago, those in our community that constantly criticize the WSU and Pullman police departments for harrassing students, inappropriate e-mails, use of tasers, etc., etc., would do well to remember one thing: If, God forbid, something like that should ever happen here, it is those same police officers that would go running towards the sound of gunfire to save lives.

Jimmy Blue Listens to The PES?

After reading his latest column published in the Daily Evergreen I have to ask if Jimmy Blue is a listener of The PES.

Jimmy Blue writes:

It is easy to complain about parking tickets. Almost every day I over hear a fellow student complaining about the "parking Nazis" who are surely out to cause them personal harm. People dispute the reasons for their tickets, and often seem incapable of taking responsibility for their failure to follow explicit parking rules.

So Jimmy writes that people illegally park and get a parking ticket, but rather than taking responsibility for their own actions they blame someone else. That has been the theme of this season of The PES. "Look in the mirror" - you need to take responsibility for your own actions. You need to look at yourself before you start to blame other people.

I have to say that Jimmy is on the mark with this column. I like to give credit where credit is due.

Monday March 5th, The PES

Scheduled to talk some more about Tasers in general, the Palouse Thunder's owner Jerry Lema, WSU Cougar Basketball with Ryno the Sports Guy, as well as our own Tom Forbes. That is scheduled for noon to two pm.

The PES is hosting a special ASWSU election edition show starting at 4:00 pm tomorrow.

Monday Feb 26th The PES

On The PES (90.7FM or the net www.kzuu.org) from noon to two o'clock PM, Monday, Feb 26th we will be talking about the recent taser incidents in Pullman and expand into a more broad range discussion of tasers in the use of force. I would love to hear from people and get an idea of how people view tasers. I would love to also hear if the information that is presented in the show clears things up or changes peoples' minds on tasers.

Brandon Koe is an eye witness to the taser incident and will give us an account that has not been reported.

Also I hope to hear from Tom about this evenings Dinner. I sure that was a great success! [Or perhaps from someone else who attended, as I was not able to make it (see prior post) - tf]

How Friendly is Washington for Small Business?

Scotty and I were just talking about this yesterday on The PES. Is Washington friendly to small business? Caitlin the Carpetbagger claimed that "Washington is ahead of both Idaho and Oregon in its business climate."

So what's the truth? A good indication is entrepreneurship. Fortune Small Business just released the results of a nationwide study that examined how many people who started their own business per 100,000 residents of a state.

Washington comes out in the bottom tier. At 230 entrepreneurs per 100,000, Washington is tied with Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Only seven states have a worse ratio (Virginia, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, West Virginia, Alabama, and Delaware).

By comparison, Idaho's ratio is 470 (among the top 10), Montana is 490 and Oregon is 330. Even California is at 320.

So what's wrong with Washington? Again, Scotty and I discussed this briefly yesterday. Possible reasons include an onerous B&O tax, restrictive L&I laws, restricive environmental laws, the lack of affordable housing (brought about by those restrictive environmental laws), and last but certainly not least, the highest minimum wage in the country.

Today at noon we will have Glenn Johnson. It has been one year since our last interview. We will follow up on last years interview plus talk about some new stuff.

Also Jerry Lema of the Palouse Thunder should be calling in around one o'clock PM to talk about the 2007 Thunder Football season.

And as always Batman, defender of this thriving but shrinking small-town Pullman should be gracing us with his wisdom.

Monday Jan 29th, Show Info

The PES will have Jerrid Edgington, the founder and CEO of the Evergreen Football League on the show. He is a former semi-pro football player and coach. He started the Evergreen Football League in 2005 to compete with the Inland Northwest Football League. Both leagues served Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Find out why only one league stands, plus learn about this upcoming 2007 semi-pro football season. We have our very own team, the Palouse Thunder. I will try to get the team owner from the Thunder to come on in the next couple weeks.

Also, next week I will have Mayor Glenn Johnson on the show. Tom and I had him on last year. I have reviewed the show's audio and I am going to follow up that interview with questions about progress on what he had told us, plus find out the new directions Pullman is headed. If there are any specific questions you want asked of Johnson, please let me know.

The PES Radio Show Guests

I have some people I like to try to get on the air each year. Glenn Johnson being one of them. But I love to have guests and talk about sports, politics, and technology. I also just talk about local things. We have talked about a WSU Student Organizations' film festival. I have had information about the Pullman Easter Massacre. So it is not always just politics and sports.

That said, before Tom was a co-host, he was a guest of the show. I also had our own April on the show. With all the contributors to Palousitics I would love to get a few others on the show.

This is a call out to anyone, whether you are a contributor or a reader of Palousitics, who would like to spend some time talking on the radio. Political affiliation doesn't matter. Like I said we can pretty much talk about anything. You can come to the studio or we can do it via telephone.
