Cover Boy

Q. How Many Portland Hipsters Does It Take To Change A Light Bulb?
A. I Don’t Know, But I Have The Answer On Vinyl.

I’m with the hipsters. I miss vinyl. Someday I will inherit my parent’s record collection (I assume. I hope), full of Sinatra, Dean Martin, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Mathis, Mantovani, & every Broadway Show up to the time I started doing that collection in 1964.

I miss the sound of the stylus touching the record. I miss the hisses & pops. I miss the early Beatles in Mono. Most of all, I miss liner notes & album covers. I used to know the session musicians & producers mentioned in the liner notes of all my favorites in the 1960s-1990s. There is even a Grammy for Best Liner Notes. Famous writers would pen them: Thomas Pynchon, Ray Bradbury, Langston Hughes, Joyce Carol Oates, John Updike, Cameron Crowe, Pete Hamill, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Rex Reed, Harold Arlen & Edward Albee.

But, mostly miss the album covers. I have no idea what the covers look like from the last 30 albums that I have downloaded songs from. You don’t get this with your download:
