On my birthday, here is a great tune- Staying Power, that my friend Barry White wrote about me back in the 1990s:
It really is a terrible birthday. Even those with birthdays in the last half of December have a world that is still festive. On January 3rd: the Christmas tree is dead in the corner, the credit cards are maxed out, all the money has been spent, everyone you know is partied out, friends & family have given up alcohol & fattening food under some misguided notion to start the year with a bunch of “NOs”. I have endured 50+ years of- “this for Christmas & your birthday”. Often people in my life just forget, as if the day of my birth is tacked on to a list of obligations that start around Thanksgiving. I am grateful to be a Capricorn, the most stalwart, resolute & creative of the signs. Considering some of my behavior, I am thankful to have made it to 56 years old, even without much celebration. But mostly, I am pleased that I share a birthday with scatterbrained comic actress- Zazu Pitts.
