I Can Do A Few Tricks, Some Old & Then Some New Tricks, I'm Very Versatile

Born on this day- January 9th... Miss Gypsy Rose Lee.

Simply put, my favorite musical is 1959’s GYPSY: A Musical Fable. I think Gypsy is a perfect work of art, not a wasted line of dialogue, every song is terrific & serves the story- the greatest score ever by Jule Styne & Stephen Sondheim, & a pitch perfect book by Arthur Laurents. This musical play was the work of 3 gay men; the lyricist, the playwright & the director/choreographer- Jerome Robbins.

Gypsy Rose Lee was born Rose Louise Hovick in Seattle, Washington . In real life she was said to have had many female lovers. She would have been 99 today.

Why did I do it?
What did it get me?
Scrapbooks full of me in the background.
Give 'em love and what does it get ya?
What does it get ya?
One quick look as each of 'em leaves you.
All your life and what does it get ya?
Thanks a lot and out with the garbage,
They take bows & you're battin' zero.

I had a dream.
I dreamed it for you, June.
It wasn't for me, Herbie.
& if it wasn't for me
then where would you be...
Miss Gypsy Rose Lee?
