“Share three classic movie moments that have, in some shape or form, made you buy things, do things, think things that perhaps you shouldn't have.”
I received this directive from my friend, the lovely & cosmopolitan- Felix In Hollywood… A Blog For The Smart Set (& that it is). So in the spirit:
The last scene in Gypsy at the end of Rose’s Turn: “I thought you did it for me, Mama. I thought you made a no talent ox into a star, because you liked doing things the hard way, Mama!”
On my first viewing of Gypsy, during to the final scene, I came to startling realization that I could have been a really big star, except that I had put the needs, hopes & dreams of everyone else ahead of my own. I was 8 years old.
After viewing the big dinner scene in The Big Chill, I mistakenly had deduced that with a soundtrack of vintage R&B tunes, a cool but funky beach house, the right lighting, & plenty of pot & liquor, I could recreate the best times of youth & reconnect with my friends from my college years. I also thought that I might be able to sleep with Jeff Goldblum. Such is the power of movies.
Sam Weber: So how's your life?
Karen: Oh, great. How's yours?
Sam Weber: Not so great.
Karen: Ohhh, we're telling the truth.
After 30+ years of watching every possible TV offering of the Thin Man Films, I erroneously began to believe that a martini was smart accessory for every occasion. Even more deluded, I came to believe that I had the style & élan of William Powell; I would never be rattled to discover a party in progress at my house when I returned home from a trip. I recently asked the Husband- "Are we more George & Martha or Nick & Nora?" He said- "Nick & Nora", with no hesitation.
Nora:"If I was in a fire in the third floor, would you save me?"
Nick:"It's too late for you to be saved, baby."
