I had the good fortunate to spend 8 weeks singing this beautiful & haunting song when I appeared in the revue- Side By Side By Sondheim in Seattle circa 1985. That show afforded me the chance to do several songs that I really relished performing, including Too Many Mornings from Follies & Anyone Can Whistle. But this song has always stayed with me & I am reminded of it at this time of the year. It is from 1966’s Evening Primrose, an original musical for television. I chose this version by the great Cleo Laine:
